National Archaeological Museum
The greatest museum of ancient Greek art on earth — the Antikythera Mechanism, the Mask of Agamemnon, the Artemision Bronze, and 11,000 other objects spanning 7,000 years. Arrive early; give it four hours minimum.
Epigraphic Museum
13,000 inscribed stone tablets — public decrees, accounts, building contracts, and election results from ancient Athenian democracy. The most direct connection available to the actual texts that governed the classical world.
Astron Bar
An Exarcheia institution — underground bar with a dedicated jazz and blues programme, bookshelf-lined walls, and a clientele of academics, musicians, and night owls. Opens at 9pm; peaks at 1am.
