How the Athens planner works

It is not a list of everything in Athens. It is a way of turning a trip length and a mood into a specific set of days.

  1. 01

Set the length and the pace

Choose one to seven days, then how hard you want to push each of them — from roughly two stops a day (Relaxed) to four (Packed). Add your travel dates and neighbourhood if you know them.

  2. 02

    Swipe through the options

You get a deck of places drawn from the whole guide, weighted towards your focus: Explorer, Foodie, Culture, Night Owl or Slow Traveller. Keep what appeals, skip what does not.

  3. 03

    Get a day-by-day plan

What you kept is organised into morning, afternoon and evening, routed so each day is walkable, and checked against opening hours for the dates you gave.

What it draws on

Every place in the planner is a page on this site, with opening hours, a neighbourhood and a reason it is worth your time.

Questions

Prefer a ready-made route? Two days in Athens, three days and four days are written out in full, or browse all the guides.

How many days can I plan?
One to seven. Trip length and pace are set separately: pick how many days you are in Athens, then choose Relaxed, Balanced or Packed for how full each day should feel — a relaxed week and a packed weekend are both expressible, not just the middle ground.
Does it know when places are closed?
Yes, if you tell it when you are travelling. Add a start date and every stop is checked against its opening hours for the day it lands on, with a warning on anything usually shut — Monday closures at the museums being the common trap in Athens.
Can I change what it suggests?
Every stop can be swapped for an alternative without rebuilding the itinerary. Alternatives are ranked by how well they match your chosen focus and how close they are to the rest of that day, so a swap does not send you across the city.
What does it base the suggestions on?
Your focus, where you are staying, and the shape of the day. Each place is scored against the tags for your chosen focus, penalised by distance from your neighbourhood, then slotted into morning, afternoon or evening and ordered into a walkable route.
Can I keep or share the itinerary?
The itinerary lives in the page URL, so the link itself is the plan — send it to whoever you are travelling with and they see the same days and stops. There is also a print view for taking it with you on paper.
